US is honoring courageous women all over the world with International women of Courage Award. It is a prestigious award for all the women. This year International women of courage award 2014 goes to Laxmi.
Laxmi is a normal girl who studied in Delhi. Her father is a cook in south Delhi home. Laxmi was tortured by a man who is 32 years old in the name of love. When she was in school, he sent a message that he loves her, but Laxmi rejected him. He made an acid attack on this poor girl. Her face got disfigured in this attack. Luckily she protected her eyes with arms which saved her vision. Nobody cared about her when she is suffering from pain. A driver took her to a nearby hospital where she got treatment for 10 weeks. She has seven surgeries and need four more surgeries to get cured.
As her family financial status is below poverty line she could not afford for costly surgeries. Unfortunately, she lost her dad and brother suffered from severe health problems. This made her life more problematic. Several months she remained in dark, could not show her disfigured face to public. Finally, she gathered courage and came out of a home to start her career. Once again her fate turned bad. Everywhere she faced rejection due to her face. In this society, people show pity on physically handicapped, blind and deaf, but nobody cares for acid attack victims. These rejections made her strong and pave the way to start a movement against acid attacks in India.
Now her glory spread all over the world with International Women of Courage Award 2014.
